Norman Lear recently asked the following question:
WHY IN ALL THAT TIME, WITH AS MANY AS 17 MEN AND WOMEN SEEKING TO SELL THEIR REPUBLICAN SELVES TO LIKE-MINDED VOTERS CRYING FOR LEADERSHIP, DID NOT ONE OF THEM INVOKE THE NAME OR THE MEMORY OF OUR FIVE STAR WORLD WAR II COMMANDING GENERAL AND TWO-TERM PRESIDENT OF THESE UNITED STATES, DWIGHT DAVID EISENHOWER?

Dear Norman - here are some possible answers:
Perhaps they are ignorant of history. Our schools and TV shows like yours have been dumbing us down for decades.
Perhaps they do not believe that a general should be president.
Perhaps they are ashamed of what the US military stands for.
Perhaps they think Ike wasn't the great person you think he is.
Or perhaps, like so many Americans both in and out of government, they think history is irrelevant.
