Officially known as the Naval Special Warfare Development Group, SEAL Team 6 is today the most celebrated of the U.S. military’s special mission units. But hidden behind the heroic narratives is a darker, more troubling story of “revenge ops,” unjustified killings, mutilations, and other atrocities - a pattern of criminal violence that emerged soon after the Afghan war began and was tolerated and covered up by the command’s leadership.

It is likely their mode of operation was sanctioned at the very top of the chain of command (i.e., in the White House). So if the members of Seal Team 6 are criminals, so is the President, his cabinet, and his senior military leadership.
Should anyone be surprised at this? If you are, I suggest you read up on the history of what the US military has done, starting perhaps with these gems:
- Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown
- Other Losses by James Bacque
- The Phoenix Program by Douglas Valentine
And if you still don't get it, take a look at this mountain of buffalo skulls and contemplate its implications:
The US does not "wage war". We exterminate. We kill indiscriminately and lie about it in the most brazen fashion. So blame Seal Team 6 if you want, but the guilt belongs with all of us.
A close read of The Intercept story reveals the chief blame belongs with the OFFICERS in charge of Seal Team 6 and NOT with the enlisted men. Is there something going on at the Naval Academy that needs to be fixed? It sure looks that way.
