How Democracies Die

Here is a discussion of a new book which I'm in no hurry to read:

Although this 'Fresh Air' discussion is based in part on fact, it is way off the mark when it comes to the lessons we should learn.

For at least the past 70+ years, democracies around the world have died (been killed off, in fact) because of the actions of the government of the USA and its agencies - especially the CIA. As William Blum stated in his 1995 book Killing Hope, the prime focus of US foreign and military policy has been to destroy democracies and intentionally kill the hopes of peoples everywhere who wanted nothing more than to control their own lives and destinies.

To turn that history back on the US (which is what the deep state is now doing) and somehow blame it on Trump is garbage. Yes, the chickens have come home to roost, but The Donald has little to do with it - and it won't stop when he is gone.

Democracy and a republican form of government is dead in the US.
