Thomas Jefferson Knew All About Fake News

“The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers.”
Thomas Jefferson (attributed)

In Jefferson's "Tree of Liberty" letter, he made the following observations and suggestions:

What country before ever existed a century & a half without a rebellion? & what country can preserve it's liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to facts, pardon & pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. It is it's natural manure.

Today's allegedly sage leaders, such as Tim Cook of Apple, don't agree with what Jefferson believed. Jefferson was willing to allow US citizens to wage war on their government to preserve their personal liberties, which appears to be what the "alt-right" encourages. I can't see Mr. Cook ever tolerating such a thing.

In fact, he wants our children to be brainwashed in such a manner that they would NEVER believe such alt-right "fake news" or want to rebel against authority. You can read about his suggestions here:

Dear Tim - You don't know jack. We have noticed that you encourage "free thinking" and disruption when it benefits your ability to make and hoard huge amounts of cash, but you do not appreciate either in defense of liberty in the sense Thomas Jefferson meant it.

As far as I am concerned, one Thomas Jefferson is worth more than one thousand Tim Cooks. It's a shame no one at the top sees it that way.
