The US Constitution stipulates the following:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of
religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof ...
If "shaming" is an Amish religious practice, then the
government should have no authority to punish it as a hate crime. If it meets the definition of "assault" then prosecute it on that basis, but not as
a hate crime.
"Your" government is taking away your Bill of
Rights using prosecutions like this and laws which facilitate them. "Democracy" as practiced in America is becoming the opposite of religious freedom.
