Pollution is the number one issue in China. For good reason, the authorities are therefore looking for ways to solve the problem of chronic smog.
A test tower with a height of over 100 meters in northern China - described by its operators as the largest air purifier in the world - has led to a significant improvement in air quality, according to senior scientists.
The tower was built in Xian, Shaanxi province and is being tested by researchers from the Environmental Institute at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Study leader Cao Junji said that air quality improvements have been observed in the city over an area of 10 square kilometers in recent months. The tower has produced more than 10 million cubic meters of clean air per day since its commissioning. On heavily smoggy days, the tower had been able to reduce air pollution to a moderate level.
The system works through greenhouses that cover about half of a football field around the tower. Dirty air is sucked into the greenhouses and heated by solar energy. The hot air then rises through the tower and passes through several layers of cleaning filter.

We could use something like that here.
Of course, thanks to Wall Street and the Pentagon we can't afford it.
