The 2021 Nobel Peace Prize

News flash:

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize to Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov "for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace."

Shouldn't it have gone to Julian Assange?

According to Nobel's will, the Peace Prize shall be awarded to the person who in the preceding year "shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses".

I'm not certain Ressa and Muratov did any of those things, but then apparently neither did Assange. But if the prize should have been awarded to someone who was persecuted for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, Assange would have won hands down.

What do you think?
