Da 5 Bloods

Spike Lee has made a movie about how badly Black veterans of the Vietnam war were treated by the USA:

But this was not the first (or last) time Uncle Sam treated his veterans that way:
  • Congress refused to pay Revolutionary War veterans;
  • Civil War vets, including Blacks, were given the cold shoulder;
  • Out of work World War I veterans formed a "Bonus Army" during the depression, only to be driven out of DC by the US Army;
  • Vietnam war vets exposed to Agent Orange were lied to and left to die;
  • Vets suffering from Gulf War Syndrome were told it was all in their head; and
  • Middle East war vets who are killing themselves in record numbers are merely given a few pills and sent home to die.

The USA has an alarming history of abandoning its POWs, wounded or sick veterans, and veterans in general.

We always seem to have money for more wars and new weapons systems, but never enough to pay for the damage our belligerence causes to our own people. Why is that?
