Planet In Peril - The Rich Escape To The Moon

Here are two recent warnings about the state of our oceans and our planet:

(1) Fishing gear and an engine cover are just some of the startling contents found inside the stomachs of sperm whales that recently beached themselves on Germany’s North Sea coast.

The 13 sperm whales washed up near the German state of Schleswig-Holstein earlier this year, the latest in a series of whale strandings around the North Sea. So far, more than 30 sperm whales have been found beached since the start of the year in the U.K., the Netherlands, France, Denmark, and Germany.

After a necropsy of the whales in Germany, researchers found that four of the giant marine animals had large amounts of plastic waste in their stomachs. The garbage included a nearly 43-foot-long (13-meter-long) shrimp fishing net, a plastic car engine cover, and the remains of a plastic bucket, according to a press release from Wadden Sea National Park in Schleswig-Holstein.

(2) The authors of the study ... used a model coupling ice sheet and climate dynamics to study Antarctica's contribution to past and future sea levels. If the continent's great ice sheet melts -- an area larger than the size of Mexico -- sea levels will rise more than 15 meters, or 50 feet, by 2500, they determined.

Although it may be a big deal for our descendants, 50 feet of sea level rise in nearly 500 years doesn't worry me. Sea creatures being overwhelmed by our trash and garbage does.

Any way you look at it, our planet is in peril. And note well that "our" billionaires are planning to construct a moon base to escape all this:

Unfortunately, We The People won't be invited. We get to pay for their lunar refuge, but we cannot go there. We'll be stranded here with the rest of the garbage.
