First, the "Panama Papers" are released, spelling out the shenanigans of many of the world's politicians and bigwigs. You can read about it here:

Are the two somehow connected?
Considering how careless the IRS has been with their emails and hard drives, it would not surprise me to learn that someone destroyed a few records under the cover of this "electrical fire".
Doesn't that sound reasonable to you?
