This brings up some alarming possibilities:
(1) As you also may have heard, many US veterans have been sickened by Agent Orange, Gulf War Syndrome, and/or PTSD. Did the US government deliberately send them overseas to get sick, maimed, or killed? Did the VA deliberately delay their treatment so that many of them would die?
(2) I speculated in a previous essay that our troops were sent to Afghanistan partly to deliberately brutalize, punish, and/or kill them. This now looks like a definite possibility:

If you are not cynical enough to believe that the US government would do this to its own citizens, consider the following (all of which you can prove to yourself by doing a little online research):
- The US conducted chemical and biological warfare experiments on its own troops and then refused to give them medical treatment or compensation.
- The US subjected its own troops to radiation and contamination from atomic testing and then refused to give them medical treatment or compensation.
- The US subjected its own civilian population (the "downwinders") to large doses of airborne contamination from nuclear weapons material production facilities and didn't even tell them about it until forced to do so.
- The US abandoned its own POWs after World War Two, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War and to this day will not admit to what really happened to them.
I have felt for a long time that the US and its deep state have been trying to destroy both the concept of the "citizen soldier" and the soldiers themselves. The US prefers to have "professional soldiers" (a.k.a. mercenaries) who bear no allegiance except to their paymaster and who will do anything they are told to do, no matter how depraved. Ultimately they will shift to autonomous battlefield robots which will kill anything that moves and never even think about complaining.
The United States no longer follows the rules of war or even basic human principles. Our nation has devolved into a "death state" that kills its enemies in the most brutal ways possible as a warning to others not to resist its demands.
And can a "national security state" that considers its own citizens to be a threat still be called a democracy? The answer to that question clearly is "no".
