The US says it will destroy Syrian chemical weapons and precursor chemicals at sea:

This is an extremely bad idea. The destruction process is NOT 100% efficient, and the combustion products and remaining chemicals will settle out on the surface of whatever "sea" is the site of the "destruction". They will be VERY harmful to local surface species and even to creatures living deeper down.
What moron thought up this plan? Why not just use the material as industrial chemicals in the US or Europe?
