Whales have been in the news lately:
Oh, so NOW we're worried about them? Where was this concern when we were slaughtering them for food and lamp oil?
Humanity has fundamentally altered the balance of life on this planet. Nothing we can do short of greatly reducing our numbers is going to restore it to health. These massive, intelligent creatures inhabited our planet long before we arrived. Without question, they were better stewards of nature than we ever will be.
