Some of our billionaires appear to be living the plots of some iconic movies and TV shows:
1. Jeff Bezos thinks most of us will be moving to giant colonies in outer space:
https://www.rt.com/usa/540203-bezos-earth-population-limit/
Frankly that sounds a lot like the plans of Hugo Drax in the movie Moonraker:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moonraker_(film)
2. Mark Zuckerberg wants us to move into his Metaverse:
https://about.facebook.com/meta
If we do that, we'll no doubt suffer the same fate as the Krell in the film Forbidden Planet:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forbidden_Planet
3. Bill Gates appears to be seeking a means of population reduction suggestive of the Star Trek episode The Mark of Gideon:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mark_of_Gideon
4. And Elon Musk seems stuck somewhere in The Expanse:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Expanse_(TV_series)
As a child I read LOTS of comic books, many of which presented sci-fi wonders like the dreams listed above. But somewhere between then and now I developed a sense of what is possible in my lifetime. Maybe someday we'll do all of the above and enjoy a happy outcome from our efforts. But to believe we'll save the 8+ billion of our fellow humans this way any time soon is a mirage.
Don't let them destroy our way of life for unattainable fantasies. If we do, we're likely to perish rather quickly as reality asserts itself in the vacuum they are creating.
Update -
This report suggests the moon contains enough oxygen to support 8 billion people:
https://singularityhub.com/2021/11/14/the-moons-surface-has-enough-oxygen-to-sustain-8-billion-people-for-100000-years/
If you read it carefully, you'll notice the infrastructure and energy needed to extract the oxygen would require a massive effort to put in place. Can it be done? Yes, but not in my lifetime ... and probably not yours, either.

Here's another pie in the sky idea - travel via wormholes:
https://www.jpost.com/science/could-we-actually-use-wormholes-for-space-travel-new-study-explains-685098
Yes, this may all be possible. But don't buy your tickets yet.
Assuming we could even find a stable wormhole, how would we predict where it would take us? And once we got there, how do we know we could get back?
Wormhole promoting movies usually depend on a higher civilization to reveal the holes to us, leaving it up to them to map the bridges and determine how to travel back and forth. That would be nice, but has it in fact happened? Who knows.
And why would that advanced civilization even WANT to show us how to travel to where they live? Have you taken a serious look at humanity? Who in their right mind would want us as neighbors?

Here's another great idea, but well before its time:
https://asiatimes.com/2021/11/helium-3-the-secret-mining-war-in-space/
First, no one has yet achieved sustained fusion. It may be a long ways off.
Second, the infrastructure and energy necessary to mine and process the helium will be extensive and difficult to ferry up to the moon.
Third, should the fusion devices be sited on the moon, beaming the energy to earth will present challenges of its own.
Once again, this all may be feasible but don't hold your breath. We need workable solutions NOW and this is not one of them.
