The US is using debtors' prisons as dumping grounds for youth -- typically poor youth of color -- whom it considers disposable. These prisons operate as legalized extortion rackets for cash-strapped municipalities, underscoring how our society has come to place profits above the welfare of children.

As I pulled into a grocery store parking lot in Texas this morning, I saw a car with California plates sporting this sign on its rear window:
UNEMPLOYED MILLENIAL MOVING BACK HOME
Our kids may never do as well as we did, especially if banks and corporations treat them as just another way to make some easy cash.
