A Marine Corps Without Tanks ???

This report about the restructuring of the US Marine Corps suggests it will no longer use tanks in battle. The report also says this:

What they probably mean, when stating Beijing as the real target, is that they want to counter China in some proxy conflicts in fights with small numbers where tanks are weak to today’s long range weaponry. This logic makes much more sense.

The Corps instead is looking for mobile systems and units that can survive within the reach of precision fires to “attrit adversary forces,” create dilemmas for the enemy and “consume adversary ISR resources,” according to the report.

I have some questions for you to consider:

(1) Why are we making China our enemy, when they appear to produce most of the stuff we consume in the US?

(2) If we're successful in "defeating" China, does that mean US manufacturers would take up the slack and make all that stuff for us?

(3) If the answer to No. 2 is "no", does that mean we just won't have access to that stuff any more?

An underlying concern is WTF are we doing? We seem to be cutting off our nose to spite our face. The only thing we're doing well is squandering our lives and national treasure in a failing attempt to maintain our undeserved hegemony. What's the point of THAT?
