Apparently the CDC is NOT recommending that the public wear face masks to prevent 2019-nCoV infection:

In case there is any doubt, here's what their website says about prevention [accessed 2/1/2020 at 9:40 AM EST]:

Nothing about face masks, is there?
This approach appears to be consistent with what the Brits are doing; i.e., NOT advising either the public or people at higher risk for exposure to wear protective clothing:

I think this is INSANE. The MOST important reason to wear a mask is to prevent the wearer from contracting the virus. Putting on a mask AFTER you're sick protects OTHERS and does YOU no good. Which is YOUR greater concern?
Yes, the government perceives the current risk to be low. But is that level of risk acceptable to YOU? After all, there is NO VACCINE and no specific treatment, either.
I'm not going to worry about "offending" someone. If I feel threatened, then I'm putting on a face mask. I urge you to do what's best for you.
