Living In A False Reality

Artificial intelligence can soon create a false reality indistinguishable from the real one, suggests new advancements in graphics manipulation which serves as a warning to humanity.

Graphics firm Nvidia recently released results of its “image-to-image translation” which can take an outdoors photo taken in the winter and transform it into the same scene, but in the summer – with indistinguishable results.

"We ... present high-quality image translation results on various challenging unsupervised image translation tasks, including street scene image translation, animal image translation, and face image translation," Nvidia revealed. "We also apply the proposed framework to domain adaptation and achieve state-of-the-art performance on benchmark datasets."

I have written about Nvidia before. Call me a troglodyte if you want, but I think this is all a VERY BAD idea:

We ALREADY find it difficult to distinguish between reality and the manufactured version. These new technologies will make it IMPOSSIBLE.

In the wrong hands (and there seem to be no "right hands" anymore) this will yield dangerous results.
