Does Facebook Work For Israel ???

Just when you thought Facebook couldn't sink any lower, they do this:

In September of last year, we noted that Facebook representatives were meeting with the Israeli Government to determine which Facebook accounts of Palestinians should be deleted on the ground that they constitute “incitement.” The meetings – called for and presided over by one of the most extremist and authoritarian Israeli officials, its pro-settlement Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked – came after Israel threatened Facebook that its failure to voluntarily comply with Israeli deletion orders would result in the enactment of laws requiring Facebook to do so, upon pain of being severely fined or even blocked in the country.

The predictable results of those meetings are now clear and well-documented. Ever since, Facebook has been on a censorship rampage against Palestinian activists who protest the decades-long, illegal Israeli occupation, all directed and determined by Israeli officials. Indeed, Israeli officials have been publicly boasting about how obedient Facebook is when it comes to Israeli censorship orders.

No surprise here, I guess.

Here are the names of some well-known US "inciters": Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, Patrick Henry, Benjamin Franklin. We used to call them heroes. I'm sure they too were banned in their day for "incitement" and sedition.

The underlying question here is this - what is wrong (much less illegal) with complaining about apparent continual violations of international law by Israel and the US?

The Palestinian’s legal right to resist occupation - to fight for their ability to promote, sustain, and nurture human life, to fight for their right to grow, to flourish - comes from two documents: the 1960 Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples and the Fourth Geneva Convention and its subsequent protocols.

Taken together, people have the right to “fight against colonial domination and alien occupation in the exercise of their right to self-determination,” Brayer explained.

Why is Facebook apparently conspiring with Israel to take away those moral and legal rights?

And why are we still supporting Facebook?

  1. This report asks further pertinent questions about how we are treating the Palestinians:
