Can We Afford Nuclear Weapons ???

"Your Commie has no regard for human life, not even his own. And for this reason, men, I want to impress upon you the need for extreme watchfulness. The enemy may come individually, or he may come in strength. He may even come in the uniform of our own troops. But however he comes, we must stop him."
- from the movie Dr. Strangelove

This modern day General Ripper wants us to spend another trillion dollars on nuclear weapons:

US Strategic Command chief Gen. John Hyten continues to argue in favor of massive spending on nuclear weapons upgrades, insisting that despite the $1 trillion estimates the cost is “affordable,” and that “deterrence will always be cheaper than war.”

Hyten also faulted the idea of getting an estimate before starting the spending at all, saying getting the estimate first is “just a crazy way to build things,” and that he thinks the US should be able to build this massive arsenal “for an affordable price,” insisting it is “the most critical thing that we do in the military.”

We cannot afford the trillions of dollars we have been wasting on the US military. And we certainly cannot afford to have a nuclear war of any size or duration with anyone. Not one more nuke should EVER be detonated on this planet.

Diplomacy always is cheaper than war. So why are all our diplomats warmongers?

Fair trade - really fair trade, not the bullying of NAFTA, TPP, TTIP, etc. - is a far better strategy than is military warfare when it comes to achieving prosperity.

Peace does not come from deterrence; it comes from a lack of belligerence and an abundance of friendship to all peoples - even those who don't look like, act like, or think like we do.
