If you recall, Ted Kaczynski, the alleged Unabomber, was observed to have been strangled prior to his "confession" in court:

Did Ted really try to commit suicide, or did someone help persuade him to "confess"? And was Mike also "persuaded" to rat out Trump?
If so, I would guess the "persuaders" worked for the federal government, possibly the FBI. They have been known to use brutal tactics to get people to speak, or to stay permanently silent. Here is another example:
