Here are two reports which more or less summarize why efforts to "save" our planet likely will come to naught:
(1) Some do-gooders are proposing nationalization of extractive industries as a way to fight climate change:

(2) An arbitration panel in The Hague has decided that Chevron does not have to pay for pollution of the Amazon:

Granted, the capitalist system is BROKEN. But turning the resulting mess over to bureaucracies to "fix" ain't going to work either. We need a brand new solution, and it's likely to be breathtaking in its scope and impact.
Think Ghost Dance Religion (or The Second Coming). I don't think anything else could work.
