Oldest US Nuke Plant Is Kaput

The oldest nuclear power plant in the US has shut down for good:

In a former life I worked for GE Nuclear. At times it was fun, and I learned a lot.

One of the things I discovered is that people do stupid things. And when they do stupid things at nuclear power plants, they can become very dangerous things.

The potential downside of nuclear energy has always outweighed any potential upside. I am happy to see that it's being phased out.

But even when they're all gone, there still will be grave danger. There are over 80,000 metric tons of spent nuclear fuel from electric power generation in the US, and 14,000 metric tons of high level waste from nuclear weapons production. The combined total is expected to rise to 140,000 metric tons in the next few decades:

Nuclear energy has gone from "too cheap to meter" to "the dumbest thing humanity has ever done".

Good riddance !!!
