The New Model of Profitability

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Mark 8:36 KJV

Although US corporations receive their charters (or articles of incorporation) from the several states, it can be argued that they no longer serve the best interests of those states or their inhabitants.

Many (if not all) corporations now serve primarily the interests of their officers and secondarily the interests of their shareholders. They are machines for the creation and distribution of great wealth.

As long as a corporation can be profitable doing something somewhere, that's all that now matters. It does not matter where the workers are, whether or not the workers earn a living wage, whether or not the activities of the corporation destroy the health and/or well being of people or other life which lives near the corporation's facilities ... in short, it matters not whether the corporation does anything "good" (and refrains from doing anything "bad") as long as it remains profitable for its officers and shareholders.

One must ask, therefore, why do states continue to issue charters to such "persons", and why do the states not hold corporations accountable to themselves and to the inhabitants of the states? Weren't the charters supposedly issued to benefit the states/inhabitants in the first place?

One possible remedy would be to tax commerce in the manner intended by The Founders:

If corporations won't play by the rules, then bar them from doing business in the US, re-erect tariff boundaries, and re-build our economy (i.e., a national economy for We The People and not dependent upon international bankgangsters and corporations).

Most will call such a plan "isolationist". I call it "survival". If we want to save this nation, we must take strong action. If we're content to allow bankgangsters and corporations to destroy it, then just keep doing what you're doing ... and so will they.

By the way, I'm not the only person to sound an alarm on this issue. Read the following to see how NAFTA has contributed to the problem:
