We're just a rest stop on the voyage

Christopher Columbus was trying to reach the East Indies when he "discovered" America.

Thomas Jefferson was trying to find a variant of the Northwest Passage to the Pacific Ocean and on to Asia when he sent Lewis and Clark on their Corps of Discovery Expedition.

The successors to their corporate sponsors finally have what they were seeking: unrestricted access to China, India, and the rest of Asia.

The United States is therefore no longer of any value to them. We were just a rest stop on the voyage, and now that they have finished plundering that rest stop it's time for them to move on.
