The Senate health care bill appears to be dead - done in by the Republican Party's inability to agree on a basic philosophical question: Should healthy Americans have to subsidize the sick?

That's the whole point of health insurance - to flatten the cost by lumping the healthy with the sick. If the sick (especially the catastrophically ill) have to bear the full cost of their medical bills, they might as well not have insurance at all.
Whatever the case, the US healthcare system needs FUNDAMENTAL change. We pay the most, but have the worst outcomes in the developed world. That's messed up.
