Death By Plastic

Perhaps "climate change" isn't our biggest threat after all:

By 2050, the earth's oceans will have more plastic than fish by weight, according to a recent report by the World Economic Forum. Scientists warn that humanity's impact on the oceans may well have already pushed them over the brink.

Perhaps we can blame it all on Dustin Hoffman. Remember this scene from The Graduate?

Some believe that bacteria are going to save us from this scourge:

A team of Japanese scientists has found a species of bacteria that eats the type of plastic found in most disposable water bottles.

The discovery, published Thursday in the journal Science, could lead to new methods to manage the more than 50 million tons of this particular type of plastic produced globally each year.

Perhaps they will, but what will be the impact of all the waste they generate eating this plastic? It may be as bad as the plastic itself.

We are killing this planet, and we really have no idea how to stop the process, do we?
