Compounding The Bhopal Tragedy

Do you recall what happened at Bhopal, India in 1984, when a cloud of methyl isocyanate from a Union Carbide plant killed as many as 3,787 people and injured another 558,125?

Well, our beloved President has just signed a deal with India which will limit the liability of US nuclear steam supply companies should their equipment cause a disaster of similar (or larger) scale in India:

This is "atoms for peace" at its worst ... and a grave insult to the people of India. Gee, I wonder how Kal Penn feels about that?

Q: Why is it okay for India to produce tons of plutonium (all of which can be chemically separated to make atom bombs), but not okay for Iran to even have nuclear power for electric generation or to produce medical isotopes?

A: There is no valid answer to this question, only opposing points of view.
