A lengthy but revealing essay by Tom Engelhardt concerning the agencies which support our deep state:

There once was a place known as the United States of America: a constitutional republic governed by a representative Congress, an accountable President, and courts of law. That place is now gone.
It has been replaced by a thug state mafiocracy run by the oligarchs of its deep state. The people are kept in the dark; Congress isn't allowed to (or doesn't want to) know what is happening; the President is a man of lawlessness who rules by decree; and if you can even get the courts' attention they will tell you that you have no standing before them.
We're on our own, but this vicious thug state is not going to leave us alone.
In Ukraine the people rose up and their Parliament voted the President out. That may not be a permanent solution, but the real question is "why aren't we doing anything about our mess?"
"Land of the free, home of the brave" my ass.
The only things still tying us together are the hatreds everyone seems to have for one another and the crushing debt we shall never escape. That's not much of a future.
