A student at an Austin metro area high school was tased by deputy sheriffs and suffered brain damage as a result:

I can't tell from the videos what happened, but what could he have done to deserve such treatment? The student was Hispanic, while the deputies were Anglo. Was that a factor?
US police are out of control, and this is a prime example of it. If we take away their impunity, this might stop.

By the way, when I was in high school male teachers had no problem administering "swats" to unruly students. And we had few if any discipline problems, no metal detectors, and no police in our schools. Are the two related? You be the judge.
If you ask me, everything started to go south when parents implemented the ideas in Dr. Benjamin Spock's seminal book Baby and Child Care. "Scientific" and "new" don't always equal "smart" or "effective".
