Today President Biden celebrated the "triumph" of democracy in his inaugural address. You can read about it here:
He's kidding, right?
Take a look at this definition (or go find one of your own):
A republic (Latin: res publica, meaning "public affair") is a form of government in which "power is held by the people and their elected representatives". In republics, the country is considered a "public matter", not the private concern or property of the rulers. The primary positions of power within a republic are attained through democracy or a mix of democracy with oligarchy or autocracy rather than being unalterably occupied by any given family lineage or group. With modern republicanism, it has become the opposing form of government to a monarchy and therefore a modern republic has no monarch as head of state.

True, we don't have a "monarch", but to say the positions of power in the US are not unalterably occupied by any given family or group is completely out of touch with reality. Banks, billionaires, CEOs, and old money control just about every important decision made in this country. Congress merely rubber stamps bills written by others, which they don't even read (let alone understand), without debate or revision. And the people surrounding the president all come from the same narrow segment of society - the rich and powerful - or at the very least are vetted by them prior to taking office or entering the inner sanctum.
So believe what you want, but if the US ever was a republic or democracy, it long ago lost the right to call itself either one. The United States is an oligarchy, pure and simple, masquerading behind the trappings of "democracy".

By the way, here is what the US thinks about democracy in other countries:
