According to cooler (and more objective?) heads, there was no "insurrection" in Washington, DC on January 6, 2021. Here are some of the reasons why:
- There was no "storming",
- There was no "incitement",
- There was no "violence",
- And the riot effectively ended Trump’s presidency.

In the wake of what happened, Professor Jonathan Turley suggests we need a federal commission to look into the 2020 election:
I agree with him, but how often do such commissions or blue-ribbon panels do anything other than muddy the waters?
We're much more likely to get investigations leading to the indictment of Donald Trump and his so-called supporters. Is that what the country really needs at this point in time? I guess it is if you're one of those who wants to crush his populist movement, but realistically the Trump era is over. Putting him in jail would make him a martyr, and wouldn't that just prolong the turmoil?
If Biden really wants to heal the nation, he should just let Trump fade into obscurity. Isn't that what Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln would have done?
Here is what Jefferson said about an actual rebellion:
"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people can not be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. We have had 13 states independant 11 years. There has been one rebellion. That comes to one rebellion in a century and a half for each state. What country before ever existed a century and half without a rebellion? And what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. And here are Lincoln's intentions following our bloody Civil War:
"With malice toward none with charity for all with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right let us strive on to finish the work we are in to bind up the nation's wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan ~ to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations." Or should we use the pretext that both these former presidents were on the wrong side of the slavery issue and therefore should be cancelled along with all of Trump's supporters?
