According to this report, the Navy soon will be induced to purchase a new multipurpose torpedo:

As a former submariner, I'm highly skeptical. Existing US torpedos are wire-guided and can be controlled after launch. This new one appears to be autonomous, and that's not necessary a good thing. If it cannot be steered, what's to prevent it from targeting its own launch vehicle?
If something is not broken, it's best not to "fix" it. Keep in mind the Kursk was sunk by a torpedo mishap. New isn't always better.
