More than 2 million US children are currently being home-schooled, and that number is rising, especially as public school budgets and support services diminish. Also gaining popularity is "unschooling": home-schooling that allows children to determine what they'll study and when. While many parents who "unschool" their children report positive outcomes that can't be measured on standardized tests, the practice is not without its critics.

Does this mean my property taxes will go down? I certainly hope so.
What is the function of formal schooling, anyway? It seems to me that the kids of today might be better off just staying at home and surfing the Internet all day. At least they'll learn how to fit in with the morons living next door who won't have traditional jobs, either.
