Polar bears on the wane

And speaking of change and genetic diversity, Canada's polar bear population is collapsing:

Everything we do in our attempts to maintain stasis on this planet may be doomed to failure. And why do our policy planners think stasis is a good idea anyway? Because rich people are worried they will lose their money. No other reason.

Life has existed on this planet for billions of years. It has its ups and downs, but life always finds a way to get around climate change and other so-called disasters. If you believe the theory of evolution, you also have to believe that change is good, for without change there can be no evolution ... at least not in the sense that process was understood by Darwin.

Humans may not want to die out, but for all we know that's what it will take for the rest of the lifeforms on the planet to survive. In trying to save ourselves, we may kill everything else ... which will lead to our extinction anyway.

Catch 22, or something like that.
