Here is a German perspective on what the US has become:
http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/paranoia-has-undermined-united-states-claim-to-liberal-democracy-a-932326.html
The article fails to emphasize one important fact: the fear (or paranoia) was MANUFACTURED by the US government. There was no reason to fear the Soviets or even the terrorists. The US government TOLD us to be afraid so as to better control us and steal our money. Here is an example of how it was done:
Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Arthur Vandenberg of Michigan, a former political isolationist himself, ... urged the president to present the threat of Soviet expansionism to Congress and the nation in the starkest of terms. The only way to get the aid, Vandenberg advised, was to "make a personal appearance before Congress and scare the hell out of the American people." On March 12, 1947, Truman, before a joint session of the House and Senate, did just that, painting the picture of a world teetering toward communist domination.
[Borrowed from http://www.nytimes.com/books/first/m/mann-delusion.html]
The false flag "attacks" of 9/11 continued the process, and President Obama ad-Dajjal expanded it until everyone everywhere became an imaginary enemy who must be spied upon and (if necessary) murdered. Frankly, the rationale for these murders is a delusional tissue of lies. People are being killed at random merely to make it appear that dangers exist so that our government can appear to "save" us from them.
Could a government possibly be any more cynical?
[For another example of a cynical abuse of power, see my essay about lies from the Korean War @ http://dissidentvoice.org/2013/04/lies-from-the-korean-war-and-why-they-still-matter/]
