This article is worth studying. A group in Pittsburgh is working hard to turn some of its members into cyborgs:

They may be the first, but I doubt they will be the last. If we're ever going to leave Earth and explore the universe, it will be as cyborgs. The human mechanism is too frail and wastes too much energy.
By the way, that DARPA program to control religious thought I mentioned on 10/16/2013 (see http://sainthoward.blogspot.com/2013/10/a-government-program-to-control.html) is going to use magnetic fields to affect how the brain interprets narratives. Could it be that this will be done using implanted magnets of the type discussed in the cyborg article?
Mind control is closer than you might think ... and if achieved by government forces wouldn't you expect that they would not allow us to KNOW we were being controlled? Isn't that the whole idea?
