I worked in the nuclear industry for 25 years. I worked for the nuclear navy, for the DOE, and for all of the major nuclear steam supply system companies (GE, Westinghouse, CE/ABB, and others). I also worked for one of Arnie Gundersen's companies (see essay below).
I saw a lot of unbelievably scary crap in those 25 years, stuff that would turn your hair white. But I have NEVER seen anything as screwed up as what is cataloged in this essay:
http://dissidentvoice.org/2013/10/fukushima-a-global-threat-that-requires-a-global-response/
There are three major problems at Fukushima: (1) Three reactor cores are missing; (2) Radiated water has been leaking from the plant in mass quantities for 2.5 years; and (3) Eleven thousand spent nuclear fuel rods, perhaps the most dangerous things ever created by humans, are stored at the plant and need to be removed, 1,533 of those are in a very precarious and dangerous position. Each of these three could result in dramatic radiation events, unlike any radiation exposure humans have ever experienced.
Three reactor cores are missing; melted down and sunk into the earth !!! Incredible !!!
If there ever were an argument against nuclear power, what happened and is happening at Fukushima is it.
In environmental law and regulation, anyone who produces something is responsible for it forever. The disaster at Fukushima was caused by reactor plants designed and built by GE (the "We Bring Good Things to Life" company). The resources and wealth of GE should be confiscated by the governments of the planet and put to use cleaning up the mess at Fukushima. Climate change may hurt us in a few decades, but the mess from Fukushima is coming at all of us RIGHT NOW.
For me it's illuminating that these same governments are willing to collect a crippling carbon tax which will do NOTHING to combat climate change, but are unwilling to act together to fix Fukushima. To me this further demonstrates that governments are lying frauds that cannot do ANYTHING effectively (except plunder, rape, and kill).
