The Costs Of The Second Amendment

Here is an essay lamenting the human costs of gun ownership in the US:

Allegedly, the Second Amendment guarantees We The People have a right to defend ourselves against tyrants - something we hardly ever do.

Allegedly, the US military exists to defend the country against external threats - something it hardly ever does.

Q: Why are we willing to bear the costs of the latter (trillion$ of dollars and millions of deaths), but not willing to bear the costs of the former (which are much smaller)?

A: Because the military kills evil foreigners, while the Second Amendment kills saintly Americans.
