Focusing chiefly on reducing carbon footprints seems to ignore the dangers of the proposed alternatives. Here is one example - lithium extraction and processing may very well poison the earth:
Consider this exchange from the 2008 movie The Day the Earth Stood Still:
Professor Barnhardt : There must be alternatives. You must have some technology that could solve our problem.
Klaatu : Your problem is not technology. The problem is you. You lack the will to change.
Professor Barnhardt : Then help us change.
Klaatu : I cannot change your nature. You treat the world as you treat each other.
Professor Barnhardt : But every civilization reaches a crisis point eventually.
Klaatu : Most of them don't make it.
Professor Barnhardt : Yours did. How?
Klaatu : Our sun was dying. We had to evolve in order to survive.
Professor Barnhardt : So it was only when your world was threatened with destruction that you became what you are now.
Klaatu : Yes.
Professor Barnhardt : Well that's where we are. You say we're on the brink of destruction and you're right. But it's only on the brink that people find the will to change. Only at the precipice do we evolve. This is our moment. Don't take it from us, we are close to an answer.
Q: When Klaatu's civilization had to evolve to survive, what was the nature of that "evolution"?
A: I doubt it involved changing from one set of dangerous technologies to another based on even more poisonous substances.
But it apparently DID involve (or at least preserve) a willingness to exterminate a dangerous species (humanity) when it threatened to destroy planet Earth.
In my view, the "evolution" we need is a return to basics. We should STOP digging things out of the ground (or bringing them here from outer space) and turning them into poisons or radioactive hazards. We should NOT encourage or even permit "transhumanism" to alter the very nature of our existence.
Life on this planet is based on carbon and structured by naturally evolving DNA. The Davos/WEF beast seems hell-bent on turning our biosphere into one based on silicon and restructured in a manner determined by AI-assisted overlords meeting in Davos, CH. Yes, like Klaatu they'll be willing to exterminate a dangerous species, but if that's the only "beneficial" aspect of their version of evolution I want no part of it.
And I don't think you do, either.
