Nuclear Folly In Georgia

This fiasco is as much a tribute to the failure of US project management as it is to the apparent futility of nuclear energy as a reliable source of affordable electricity.

Unbeknownst to many, these two new reactors will serve a dual purpose. They are quite close to the Savannah River Site which used to have tritium production reactors which made material for nuclear bombs. DOE has not operated a tritium production reactor for years, and the US now harvests tritium from commercial power reactors such as Vogtle 3 and 4.

So, rate payers may get stuck with the ultimate costs of this gigantic nuclear folly, but they can rest easy knowing that the psychopaths in the Pentagon still have the ability to kill every last Russian and Chinese on the planet with H-bombs boosted by Vogtle tritium.
