Nuke Subs For Australia ???

As a former nuclear submarine officer, I am amazed that Australia now wants to buy US/UK nuke subs. You can read about it here:

What strategic shift led to this crazy decision? The "pivot to Asia"? Does it make sense for the Aussies to further antagonize China by buying subs which obviously are targeted at them?

Where will these subs be constructed? US shipyards already are overwhelmed and cannot meet their domestic contract obligations. Does this mean the UK actually will do the work and reap the benefits? I can see now why the French are pissed.

Along with the sub announcement, it now seems the Aussies want a domestic nuclear industry, too. You can read about that alleged development here:

I hope they know what they're getting into, but I doubt it. If what they wind up with is the kind of nuke industry we have in the US, they're in for a shock. Everything nuke in the US has gone to hell in a handbasket over the past few decades. One of the last large projects (in Georgia) bankrupted Toshiba and led to federal prosecutions for several executives, while one of the oldest active construction permits (in Alabama) is in the process of being abandoned (after 45 years and billion$ spent). You can read about the latter event here:

By the way, to show you how ill-informed the US media are, please refer to my blog post of roughly 5 years ago:

https://sainthoward.blogspot.com/2016/10/is-tva-about-to-get-scammed.html

Bellefonte is NOT a boiling water reactor design. The alleged planned conversion from PWR to BWR was a nonsensical impossibility - essentially a "perpetual motion machine" hoax in which heating coils in the former reactor vessels would be used to produce steam to generate electricity to heat the coils. In my view, anyone who would approve such a conversion (or report about it without bursting into laughter) has an astounding lack of knowledge of the real world.

Anyway, the Australian public, already locked down (for their safety, no doubt) by the COVID plandemic now will be given the opportunity to buy several expensive nuke subs and build a domestic nuclear industry for untold billions (trillions?) of dollars to support US strategic goals which as far as I can tell will do NOTHING for their security.

I know damn well they did nothing for ours.

Update - 9/18/2021

Not all Aussies are happy with this:

Since they cannot even fight COVID lockdowns, what chance do they have against the nuke lobby? I would guess little or none.
