According to this report, some think the Electoral College is "absurd":

Supreme Court justices take an oath to support the US Constitution, not to destroy it or call its provisions absurd.
Why was the college created in the first place? Some say it's because The Founders "feared democracy". I think their motivations stemmed from reason, not fear:
James Madison worried about what he called "factions," which he defined as groups of citizens who have a common interest in some proposal that would either violate the rights of other citizens or would harm the nation as a whole. Madison’s fear – which Alexis de Tocqueville later dubbed "the tyranny of the majority" – was that a faction could grow to encompass more than 50 percent of the population, at which point it could "sacrifice to its ruling passion or interest both the public good and the rights of other citizens."

Frankly, Madison's "factions" (e.g., BLM, Antifa, the DNC, and Trump haters) are about to overwhelm the rest of us. And not only that, today's dangerous factions do NOT seem even to represent a majority of the population. There's no way to assess their true numbers, since the MSM and controlled social media platforms have distorted our perception of just about everything.
Not only should the Electoral College be restored, the electors should have free rein to vote for whomever they believe would be the BEST persons for the jobs of President and Vice President (i.e., they should NOT be bound by the popular vote).
The REAL absurdity of the situation is to believe that our present system is either democratic OR is capable of choosing the best candidates to preside over the nation.
