It appears the Silk Road may be coming to the Western Hemisphere:
Wall Street banks and corporations operate with relative impunity in many Latin American countries often leading to persistent poverty. Nicaragua, determined to avoid the pitfalls suffered by her neighbors,is turning to China to help boost the local economy, and the results are promising.

The US has screwed with Central and South America so hard and for so long, it would not surprise me if they all tossed us out some day and fully embraced the BRICS.
Of course, they first would have to expel all the traitors whom the US has bribed so that we could steal their resources. That may not be so easy to do.
But in the long run I do believe that China has the upper hand.
