America's "disappeared"

We all know that many countries around the world simply "disappear" those they find inconvenient, such as journalists, trade union leaders, environmental activists, and various and sundry political foes. In those countries, the disappeared usually are dead (i.e., they have been murdered by the state or its accomplices).

But right here in the good old US of A we also have people who have for all intents and purposes been "disappeared":

• People whose jobs were eliminated or offshored,
• People entrapped by the war on drugs and thrown in jail for crimes in which they were the chief victim, and
• Military veterans who cannot cope with their return to a "real world" that has no place for them.

Others, if not disappeared, are only made visible in ways that make them appear to be evil hatemongers:

• Those who disagree with same-sex marriage,
• Those who disagree with abortion, and
• Those who take their religious beliefs seriously, or who believe that the First Amendment to the US Constitution is still in effect.

Who performs this disappearing act? The US government, the bankgangsters, the corporations, Hollywood, and their accomplices in the one percent.

Why do they do it? Recall the old adage: out of sight, out of mind. In this so-called democracy, the disappeared vanish so that they will have no voice, leaving those who effect the disappearance to rule as they please.

Of course they make it seem that elections are taking place, but that is the sickest joke of all. Does anyone other than the bankgangsters, the corporations, Hollywood, and their accomplices in the one percent actually believe this is still a participatory democracy? Do THEY even believe it?
