Why is jubilee not being observed ???

And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.
-Leviticus 25:10

Part of this Biblical inscription can be found on the so-called Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, PA. It refers to the practice of jubilee, which the Lord told the children of Israel to observe when they entered the Promised Land.

This practice is not being observed in Israel, the United States, or any other so-called Christian nation. Why not?

The typical answer from the Jewish perspective is that they'll start observing jubilee when Messiah comes. Clearly, however, that is NOT what the Lord commanded them to do. Failing to observe jubilee for that particular reason tells me that it will not be observed even after Messiah comes. Messiah is expected to destroy all their enemies, foreign and domestic, and to rule the nations with a rod of iron. Why release prisoners when you think you are empowered to punish and kill anyone you please? Why give back property when no earthly power can compel you to do so? The unrighteous can always devise exceptions to God's commandments.

Americans are on a punishment binge that not only is not Christian but is also quite depraved. From "three strikes" laws to indefinite detention by the military, Americans have a growing number of excuses why people must be imprisoned for life, even if they MIGHT someday commit a crime. And the bottomless pits of our wars on terror in Guantanamo Bay and Bagram Airfield are proof positive that the US has no intention of ever observing jubilee.

The Liberty Bell is cracked, and Messiah has NOT come. Did you ever consider the possibility that failure to observe the Lord's commandments is what led to this?
