Fracking is a gangplank to a warm future

Here is a revealing op-ed essay in The New York Times:

Apparently, Obama ad-Dajjal's war on coal is just another example of his incredible penchant for promising things he can't deliver. Shutting down coal-fired power plants will NOT save the planet. It will, however, encourage more fracking (a.k.a. methane mining).

Experts blame the problems from fracking on "leaking wells". They are ALL going to leak some day; engineered systems can NEVER be perfect, and all those holes in the ground are direct pathways from huge deposits of toxins to all of our subterranean aquifers.

Fracking is stupid. It represents a short-term gain at a potentially huge long-term cost. The nuclear industry once claimed that its electricity would be "too cheap to meter". Any positive claims about the benefits of fracking belong in the same category of wishful thinking.
