The fiasco in Afghanistan points to some lessons we don't appear to be learning. Here are a few (in no particular order):
- in spite of our modern weapons and herculean efforts, we can't win wars anymore;
- without a continued, massive US presence and injection of cash, just about all of our client states would fall apart;
- people don't want to be like the US - their kids crave the sex-drugs-rock-n-roll part, but they couldn't care less about our "democracy" and the effort it takes to build and maintain it; and
- no amount of continued deficit spending (other than shrinking it down to zero) is going to save us from the fate of the former USSR after they left Afghanistan.
You may not agree with my assertions, but if you don't I'd like to see your proofs. We definitely are headed in the wrong direction, and unless we have a REAL accounting soon we'll be spiraling down the drain of history. The "Joe Biden" administration and Pelosi-Schumer congress are nowhere near up to the task (if they're even interested.)
