The US Is A Potemkin Nation

The New York Times used this lede for one of today's op-ed pieces:

Behind a facade of strength, Putin leads a nation deep in economic rot and military overreach.

I think the following statement would be a more supportable claim:

Behind a facade of strength, Trump leads a nation deep in economic rot and military overreach.

Russia has little sovereign debt. The US debt is $20 trillion and rapidly growing.

Russia has a very limited military footprint outside its borders. The US has forces in 177 countries, which it can ill afford to support.

Russia is building valuable ties with China's global economic system via the New Silk Road. The US is shooting itself in the foot with most of its current trade partners, creating new enemies left and right.

Russia slumped after the fall of the USSR, but she appears to be recovering. According to some, the US now possesses many attributes of a "failed state". You can read about some of them here:

It's not surprising that the MSM is working hard to silence voices of dissent in the US. Alles ist gemütlich here in the Homeland, and everything which isn't must be Trump's fault.

I guess that's all they want us to know.
