People Arrested In Chicago Don't Get To See A Lawyer

Here is a very alarming statistic:

In the past three years, less than half of 1% of people arrested in Chicago saw an attorney while in police custody -- a possible violation of their constitutional legal rights -- according to statistics provided by the Chicago Police Department after CNN filed a request under the Freedom of Information Act.

"A possible violation of their constitutional rights"? Are you kidding me? How about a GROSS violation?

This situation is cynically portrayed as "normal" on TV shows such as "Chicago PD", on which people are thrown into a cage to be beaten or tortured by police. No lawyer is ever present, and none of the cops ever are punished for what they do.

But it's all okay, since the Chicago PD never arrests innocent people, right?
